Surah-MaArij

Surah Al-Ma’arij, also known as “The Ascending Stairways,” is the seventieth chapter of the Holy Quran. It consists of forty-four verses and was revealed in Makkah during the early period of Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) prophethood. This surah addresses several important themes and provides valuable guidance to the believers.

Surah Al-Ma’arij begins with a vivid description of the Day of Judgment, emphasizing the severity and inevitability of its events. It portrays the disbelievers’ mockery of the Prophet’s message and their desire for instant punishment. Allah, in response, assures the Prophet and the believers that the Day of Judgment is a certainty, and the disbelievers will face the consequences of their actions.

The surah then highlights the importance of patience and perseverance for the believers. It states that those who patiently endure the trials and tribulations of life will be rewarded with Paradise. The righteous are described as those who offer their prayers with devotion, fulfill their obligations, and avoid major sins. They honor their trusts and covenants and are steadfast in their prayers.

The surah further warns against arrogance and self-righteousness. It mentions the story of the people of ‘Ad who were destroyed due to their arrogance and defiance of Allah’s commands. Their punishment serves as a lesson for those who indulge in pride and disobedience. The surah emphasizes that Allah is well aware of everyone’s actions and will hold them accountable on the Day of Judgment.

Surah Al-Ma’arij also addresses the issue of false claims made by the disbelievers. It condemns those who deny the resurrection and claim that the life hereafter is a fabrication. The surah affirms the truthfulness of the Quran and assures the believers that its message is from Allah. It emphasizes that the disbelievers’ rejection of the truth will not affect the inevitability of the Day of Judgment.

The surah continues by mentioning the punishment that awaits the disbelievers. It describes the Hellfire as a blazing fire with seventy cubits of height, prepared for those who deny the truth and turn away from righteousness. The surah portrays the intensity and severity of the punishment in vivid terms to emphasize the importance of turning to Allah and seeking His forgiveness.

Surah Al-Ma’arij concludes by highlighting the importance of establishing regular prayer. It urges the believers to be consistent in their prayers and to remember Allah throughout the day. The surah emphasizes the significance of supplication and seeking refuge in Allah from the evil whispers of Satan. It reminds the believers that Allah is well aware of their intentions and actions.
